Back Pain Pneumonia

Pnemonia left back pain?

I am on the 5th day of my medication for Pneumonia. The crackling feeling when breathing has decreased. The pain in the back (around the ribs) still hurt. How long does it take for the deep breathing pain to go? I do feel weak. My pneumonia didn’t have the usual symptoms – just the deep breathing pain. X-ray came showed fluid at the base of the left lungs.

I am on Avelox. Can I take Aleve with it?

The pain can be from a pulled muscle caused from your coughing or from the pressure of the fluid. Aleve should be okay to take, but I recommend Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil) instead. Aleve is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout or menstrual cramps. Aleve shouldn’t be taken if you have cardiac or stomach disorders.
The following medicines should be taken at least 4 hours after or 8 hours before you take Avelox: antacids that contain magnesium, calcium, or aluminum (such as Tums, Rolaids, Maalox); the ulcer medicine sucralfate (Carafate); vitamin or mineral supplements that contain iron or zinc; didanosine chewable/buffered tablets or pediatric powder for oral solution (ddI, Videx, Videx Pediatric, and others).
Continue your medication as prescribed, don’t stop just because you feel better. Call your doctor if the pain doesn’t subside in a few days or if you don’t feel better, he/she may have other courses of treatment for you to take.
I hope you feel better soon, God bless.
